Children's birthday parties

So we decided to have a big birthday party for the 3 year old - excitement was rife within the house!  We were a bit nervous about catering to the kids and the adults, being dairy free, but noone even noticed (the bouncy castle we hired also helped!).

For the kids we did:
Fairy bread (hundreds and thousands on white bread with margarine)
Dairy free potato chips
Hellers cheerio sausages with tomato sauce (available at Countdown and Foodtown)
Juice box for a drink

Then I made the chocolate cake which a big success with virtually none left!  If you are wanting to decorate your cake Queen quality decorations do jungle mania little animals.  They are available at Farrow in Auckland.  They look really cool!

For the adults we put on
Some wine and beer (avoids the whole hot drink saga with no milk)
Hummus and LaVosh crackers
Salsa and bagel crisps
Chippies
Thai coriander dip with bagel crisps.

Everyone had a fabulous time - I think the thing we are learning as we go along is that we didn't even mention any of the food was dairy free and just enjoyed the party with everyone else.
